In late 2023 the City of Surrey launched the planning process for a comprehensive update to the Cloverdale Town Centre Plan, largely in support of the New Surrey Hospital and BC Cancer Centre. Additionally, in February this year, Surrey announced a collection of initiatives in preparation for its trajectory towards reaching a population of one million people. One of those initiatives was the creation of an entertainment district on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, directly adjacent to the north boundary of the Cloverdale Town Centre Plan.

At the July 22, 2024 council meeting, a corporate report was endorsed, expanding the boundary of the Cloverdale Town Centre plan to include the land beneath the Fairgrounds, a strip of adjacent properties to the west, and a handful of properties to the east. This expanded boundary is shown below.

The corporate report (LINKED HERE) goes on to explain that the “Cloverdale Town Centre Plan Update will orient land uses, roads and infrastructure to support the New Surrey Hospital & BC Cancer Centre and KPU campus expansion and support the creation of an entertainment district in Cloverdale.”

The specific vision for the Fairgrounds will now be developed as part of the Cloverdale Plan update, continuing through the rest of the year and aiming to be in draft form for Council’s review in 2025.
