Our community zones and town hall

With modern workplace amenities, employees can shape their work environment to suit their specific needs, enhancing their productivity and comfort.
OUR PHILOSOPHY

As a living lab for our clients, an important concept we wanted to showcase was the power of flex – leveraging our own flexible office solutions thinking in designing our workplace.

Open workstations, comfortable lounge areas, and collaborative zones are spread throughout to encourage spontaneous interactions, idea-sharing, and teamwork. For privacy and focused work, we’ve included a multitude of enclosed focus rooms, bookable offices, and phonebooths.
Throughout the office, there are casual zones with lounge seating that are dedicated towards our Toronto neighbourhoods (e.g. Harbourfront, Brickworks, and The Beaches). Many of these zones are placed in the corner of the offices with maximal sunlight and views. Naming these neighbourhoods not only serve as a functional way to navigate the office but also to bring the energy of downtown Toronto into our office and inspire familiarity for our employees.

Our town hall space is meant to serve as an open social space for both employees and clients. The demountable partitions to allow flexibility in how we use the space. For example, the partitions can be folded away to open the space up for client events. For smaller client meetings, we can place the partitions to separate the meeting room from the general working area and the cafe area.

The staircase is one of the first elements you see when you step out of the elevator into our office. The central position the staircase holds reflects our office’s core mission, Project Unity, of connecting all our teams together. We chose a unique, angular staircase design to catch the eye’s attention and emphasize the connection between the floors.  We chose to invest in clear glass panels to reflect our transparency and lack of barriers between teams.

Nature is seamlessly woven into the design to create a living workspace. Abundant natural lighting, indoor plants, and natural materials create a biophilic atmosphere that enhances well-being, reduces stress, and boosts creativity. It is widely known that plants in the workplace increase productivity and wellbeing by around 15%, as shown by this study.

“Biophilic design takes everything we love about being out of the office, and places it inside our work environments. The outcome is our people feeling more at home, and in an environment where we promote wellness for our people,”  says Brandy Burdeniuk, Avison Young's Director of ESG in North America.
